Did you know that keeping your feet up is actually a healthy thing to do? Gravity plays a big role in the swelling of the feet and by keeping your feet propped up whenever you feel it coming on or you look down and see your feet have gained two sizes – prop those piggies up!

If you’re an indoor / outdoor type of person, make sure that you have a place to prop your feet up no matter what you’re doing. Invest in an ottoman or footrest for your outdoor furnishings as well as indoors so you can relax no matter what you’re doing. If it’s a beautiful day outside and you are busy potting plants, reading a book or otherwise enjoying your outdoor space, you may not want to go in the house and prop up. Make it so you can relax outdoors as well and put your feet up and continue your book or whatever you were doing after a short period of rest.

Additionally, swelling feet can be aggravated by not drinking enough water. Contrary to what you may have been told, even though they are mostly water, tea and coffee are actually dehydrating to your body so stick to pure, clean water to get the most benefit from the fluids you drink.

Pregnant women especially should be sure to drink enough fluids and if they are standing for any period of time, it’s a good idea to use a footrest and prop one foot up as you work with your plants or do other outside chores that require periods of standing.

Your feet are so important, treat them right and don’t forget the footrest!
