Outdoor benches make a great addition to your garden or other outdoor space. If you want to keep your outdoor benches looking great, make sure that you are caring for it properly. Different materials will require different maintenance steps. Metal outdoor benches are usually easy to care for. These include iron, aluminum and steel designs. While these are all rust resistant metals, keeping them out of the rain is always a good idea. Every so often, you may also want to coat them with wax to protect from the elements. If they get dirty, a simple soap and water combination will be enough to get them spic and span. Wooden outdoor benches may require a little more care, depending on the type of wood they are made of. Cedar and teak outdoor benches have high resin content, making them much less susceptible to sun, water, heat and insect damage. Other woods should be stored in a dry place as much as possible and be regularly oiled or waxed. Use a wood polish to clean wooden outdoor benches. Plastic is probably the most durable and easiest to care for material. It is usually very resistant to sun damage and can be cleaned with water. Whatever type of outdoor bench you choose, it’s a good idea to store them in the winter.
