Adirondack Chairs are sturdy chairs without cushions that were invented in Westport among the Adirondack Mountains. They were tough and rugged, made of straight wooden planks meant to give relaxation for picnickers. They were later refined and commercialized due to a huge demand among people spending their vacation in summertime. Today’s Adirondack Chairs are well contoured and elegantly designed to suit various locales. They are mostly used as outdoor chairs but are preferred by many as indoor chairs. They are constantly evolving, and due to their simple design are also finding a place among office furniture. Painted Adirondack chairs look beautiful and come in wide varieties of color. Many are painted with wood colors to give a natural look while others, especially kid’s chairs and benches, are painted to give a jazzy look which kids love. Old Adirondack Chairs can be converted into beautiful Painted Adirondack Chairs, and this can be done in your backyard. Cedar and pine easily catches paint and therefore may be painted. Use a proper sandpaper to remove dirt and then smoothen the surface. Give your chairs two to three coats of a good latex based paint and keep it to dry. Apply a sealer to protect the paint once the paint is dry. Newly manufactured teak chairs must not be painted. The paint peels off due to the presence of natural oils in the wood; but some old teak chairs may be painted. Painted Adirondack Chairs are becoming more popular these days.
