As you may already know, the first Adirondack Chairs was designed and made in 1903 by Thomas Lee, who had a need for practical and comfortable chairs for his summer home in the Adirondack region of New York. The original Adirondack Chairs were made of eleven pieces of lumber. A friend of his patented the design and started manufacturing the chairs commercially. Although today’s Adirondack Chairs are more stylish, with contoured backs and seats, they have retained some of the unique details that have made them such a popular type of outdoor furniture. The wide, horizontal armrests would be a good example. The armrests function as great “tables” to place a drink or a plate of food on. Do you have to travel to upstate New York to find Adirondack furniture? No way, you can find Adirondack Chairs at any store that sells outdoor furniture. That is anywhere in the United Sates, and also on many websites on the Internet. The Adirondack pattern is not only prevalent in chairs. Today furniture manufacturers make benches, gliders, and loveseats in the same basic style. That way you can buy the complete furniture set for your veranda or patio in the Adirondack design.
